November 2009 Dear Friends, Last year we introduced you to Madelyn. She is now 3 years old and is thankfully still in remission from cancer. This year, Madelyn would like you to meet Kansas. Kansas is 5 years old and was diagnosed with cancer at age 4. Like Madelyn, Kansas has already experienced more in her life than most of us can imagine. Kansas was diagnosed in April of 2008 with a Bi-Lateral Wilms Tumor, a cancer of both kidneys. Also like Madelyn and hundreds of other children in South Carolina, Kansas has spent her fair share of time at the Children’s Hospital, enduring harsh treatments to save her life. While Kansas’ family continues to fight her cancer, Children’s Chance continues to fight to support the family by providing programs and services to help them through such a difficult time. Kansas’ mother is grateful and explains, “Children’s Chance is the best. Thanks for including not only Kansas but our entire family in such wonderful programs that we will never forget.” Even during such tough economic times, cancer does not take a break from affecting children throughout our Palmetto State every day. Unfortunately about 200 children a year are diagnosed with cancer in South Carolina and this number continues to rise each year! Although over 78% of those children will survive, cancer remains the number one disease killer of children in the United States. Children’s Chance cannot erase the pain that families of children with cancer experience. We can, however, lighten the burden by providing programs that address the needs of the entire family during their journey with pediatric cancer. Children’s Chance is quite proud to report to you that from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, 82% of our funds were devoted directly to programs. We know that times are hard for everyone and that is why we need your help even more so that we can continue to assist families like Kansas’s survive their journey with pediatric cancer. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated and goes a long way to help kids with cancer in South Carolina. Your continued support and encouragement will help ease the financial, emotional, and psychological burden these families face. Please DONATE NOW by visiting www.childrenschance.org/donate: you may give a One-Time Payment or sign-up to be a Monthly Supporter. On behalf of all South Carolina children fighting cancer and their families, thank you for your support! Sincerely,
Scott Graves |
