Cancer is NOT contagious. Support of the family IS contagious and very much needed from everyone including friends, neighbors, and entire communities. When you know a child who is diagnosed with cancer, be the first one to offer support - others will follow!

Childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of children ages 0-14 in North America.

In South Carolina, there are between 150-200 new cases of pediatric cancer per year. This number has increased 1% every year for the past 20 years.

About 4,000 children die from cancer a year. That's 11 children every single day, every single year.

Approximately 78% of all children diagnosed with cancer will survive.

Leukemia is the most common and the most curable form of pediatric cancer.

There are over 33 different types of known pediatric cancers.

Many of the children who survive are faced with future complications due to treatment such as the risk of re-occurrence, problems with organ function and development and brain function, and psychological and emotional problems.

60 - 70% of children treated for cancer are at high risk for cognitive disabilities.

In a family where there has been a loss of a child or a child with chronic illness, the divorce rate approaches 80-85%.

Siblings of children with cancer have a higher incidence of depression, anxiety and addiction.

The treatment period for the most common type of leukemia is 2 ½ to 3 years.
