Children’s Chance
was formed on September 25, 1996 by two mothers who had daughters
battling cancer. The organization was started to fill in gaps among
the current services provided for pediatric cancer patients and
their families. Children’s Chance & our Ambassador Zig the Pig
exist to assist children with
cancer and their families throughout the state of South Carolina
with non medical needs. Children’s Chance raises money to fund a
variety of programs to meet the financial, emotional, and
psychological needs of the pediatric cancer patient and their families.

The Ivanjack's Story
Thanks to Bill
Reynolds of the Todd and Johnson Law Firm, Walt
and Carol Ivanjack became aware of the support
which Children’s Chance provides to families of
children with cancer, and welcomed the
opportunity to support its noble work.
Carol and Walt
have lived in Northeast Richland County for the
past 12 years, having selected Columbia as the
place to retire after Walt’s 27-year career with
the U.S. Army. In February they celebrated
their 42nd wedding anniversary. They
met as teenagers when they were working in a
grocery store in their hometown of Chicago.
Walt is a retired professional engineer and
Carol is a retired legal secretary. They have
two adult sons, Wally who lives with his wife,
Lesley, in Manassas, Virginia, and Matthew who
is currently stationed with his wife,
Schantellia, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Matt and
Schan are the proud parents of Walt and Carol’s
only grandchild, 9-year old Joshua.
They have known
the heartache of having children with cancer,
since their son, Wally, and their
daughter-in-law, Lesley, are cancer survivors.
Wally was diagnosed with testicular cancer in
his late teens. As he was on the road to
recovery, his then-fiancé, Lesley, was diagnosed
with Stage IV nasal pharyngeal carcinoma.
Thanks to the prayers of many friends and family
coupled with the dedicated professionals of
modern cancer treatment, Wally and Lesley are
20-year cancer survivors. In addition to being
successful in the business world, Wally and
Lesley live active lives, both being avid
motorcyclists and master scuba divers.
