Gamecock Fans Collect Keys to help Kids with Cancer!
(Columbia, SC – September 15th, 2006): The USC Women’s Soccer Team and fans are teaming up with Children’s Chance to hold a “Keys to A Cure” key drive collection to help children facing cancer and their families to be held at the women’s home game against Clemson, Friday, September 15th, 2006, from 5:00-6:30pm during the Family Fun Fest. The event will be take place at the USC Soccer field located at Stone Stadium on the corner of Whaley and Heyward streets, and attendees of the women’s soccer game have the opportunity to bring a used key or keys in exchange for a Marble Slab coupon and $3.00 admission (kickoff for the game is 7:00pm), to help raise money and awareness for children battling cancer in the state of South Carolina.
Samantha Higgins, Public Relations Director of Children’s Chance states, “We are excited about teaming up with the USC Athletics Department and the community, especially to hold another key drive during September which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to help raise awareness and funds for children battling cancer through this unique program! “Keys to A Cure” allows anyone regardless of their economic status, to participate in helping those in need, because all you have to do is turn in your used keys.”
Children’s Chance is one of only three chosen charities to benefit from the “Keys to A Cure” program created by Metal Removal Technologies, a local professional metal clean up company, where used keys are collected, processed, and the clutter is turned into life giving dollars helping those severely in need. Children’s Chance will receive a generous donation on behalf of MRT once a month based on the weight and metal values of all of those keys collected for recycling.
Founded in 1996, Children’s Chance is the only statewide non profit organization that is dedicated to providing children facing cancer and their families with non-medical financial, emotional, and, psychological support. Proceeds from the “Keys to A Cure” key drive will fund a variety of programs including art therapy, counseling programs, teen support groups, Discretionary funds which help families pay non medical bills such as mortgage or electric payments, and Angel Funds which provide families with small out of pocket expenses to make their trips to the clinic a little easier, such as gas or food cards.
