Aktion Club Members to Collect Keys for Children’s Chance!

Helping South Carolina Children with Cancer

(Columbia, SC – September 16th, 2006): The Aktion Club of Sandhill, sponsored by the Columbia Northeast Kiwanis Club, is teaming up with Children’s Chance on Saturday, September 16th from 12-6pm to hold a “Keys to A Cure” key drive collection to help children facing cancer and their families, at the Village at Sandhill shopping center located at the intersection of Clemson Road and Two Notch Road. The event will take place at the Town Center Commons area of the shopping center, and shoppers, community members, and the general public have the opportunity to bring used keys to help raise money and awareness for children battling cancer in the state of South Carolina. The Aktion Clubbers will also be selling stuffed animals and donating the proceeds from the day to Children’s Chance.

Samantha Higgins, Public Relations Director of Children’s Chance states, “We are excited about teaming up with the Aktion Club of Sandhill and the community, especially to hold another key drive during September which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to help raise awareness and funds for children battling cancer through this unique program! “Keys to A Cure” allows anyone regardless of their economic status, to participate in helping those in need, because all you have to do is turn in your used keys.”

The Aktion Club is a community-service group of adults with cognitive disabilities. The Aktion Club activities enable members to serve their community, develop mechanical, creative & intellectual abilities, improve self-esteem, develop leadership skills and achieve personal goals.  Aktion Clubs are sponsored by Kiwanis Clubs and membership is open to any adult with a cognitive disability who desires to become a leader in his/her community and wishes to provide service to others. To find out more about the Aktion Club, please visit www.aktionclub.org, or call 1-800-KIWANIS, ext. 164.

Children’s Chance is one of only three chosen charities to benefit from the “Keys to A Cure” program created by Metal Removal Technologies, a local professional metal clean up company, where used keys are collected, processed, and the clutter is turned into life giving dollars helping those severely in need. Children’s Chance will receive a generous donation on behalf of MRT once a month based on the weight and metal values of all of those keys collected for recycling.

Founded in 1996, Children’s Chance is the only statewide non profit organization that is dedicated to providing children facing cancer and their families with non-medical financial, emotional, and, psychological support. Proceeds from the “Keys to A Cure” key drive will fund a variety of programs including art therapy, counseling programs, teen support groups, Discretionary funds which help families pay non medical bills such as mortgage or electric payments, and Angel Funds which provide families with small out of pocket expenses to make their trips to the clinic a little easier, such as gas or food cards.
