The Meet the Families section features
some amazing stories of courage and hope
and highlights some of the wonderful families
that Children's Chance works with!

... here are their stories

“Joel’s Journey"

Joel Romero is an 8 year old boy. He is a rising third grader at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Like any young boy his age, Joel likes running, jumping, and playing with his friends. However, unlike most boys his age, Joel is a pediatric cancer survivor.  Read Joel's story.

"Remembering Matthew"

It was four-year old Matthew Bryan's 8th visit to a doctor in a matter of months. I kept repeating the same thing; "He sleeps more than he used to; he stops to rest while playing; he doesn't have much of an appetite or tolerance for things and in the evenings, he has a low-grade fever".  Read Matthew's story.

“About Amber"

Thank you Children's Chance for the opportunity to tell our story and share how special your organization is to our family. We are the Austin Family, which includes my husband Eugene, and myself Thyra, and our three children- Amber, age 9, Aaron, age 8, and Alan, age 3.  Read Amber's story.

"Really Ruthie"

Our daughter Ruth was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocitic Leukemia (ALL) on August 22, 2002, when she was 5.  She had had viral encephalitis one moth earlier and had spent 3 weeks in Palmetto Richland’s Children’s Hospital, one week in a drug-induced coma.  She had to learn to talk, eat, and walk again.  There were so many vague and mysterious problems that we knew something was still not right.  Read Ruthie's story.

"Great Gabriel"

Christmas season, for most, is a joyous time of year.  As many prepare to see their families, shop for last minute gifts and enjoy wonderful music.  It’s a time when a person’s worries are, “I hope I didn’t forget anyone.”  Last year, for our family, the Christmas season is such a blur.  My husband began his quest to serve his country as his family later began to worry about his healthy son.  Our youngest son, Gabriel, who had never any health problems, began to get fevers, become lethargic, lose weight and his appetite among other things.  Read Gabriel's story.

"Annastin the Angel"

Annastin Eliana Gunn was born on April 8th, 2006. “She was a very happy child” Andrea, Annastin’s mother said. “Eliana means ‘Gift from God’ and this helped us get through what we were about to experience.”
 Read Annastin's story.

"Brave Brittany"

Back in October of 2000, our youngest daughter of three, Brittany was diagnosed with a rare childhood bone cancer "Ewings Sarcoma"...Brittany is one of six that are still with us out of the approximately 26 children that we met during our experience with cancer".  Read Brittany's story.

"The Ferguson's Fight"

Thank you Children's Chance for all your generosity helping our family through Devon's cancer treatments...I can't tell you how much your organization's contributions are helping us get through the cost associated with cancer.  Read The Ferguson family's story.

"Madelyn the Miracle"

Madelyn Grace Bell was born on September 20, 2006 at 3:30 pm. She was a beautiful baby girl with a head full of hair and the gleam in her Mommy and Daddy's eyes...For 6 weeks we fumbled through figuring out what it was like having a newborn in the house, but she was beautiful and healthy, or so we thought..." Read Madelyn's story.
