The Family Support Funds
Program (formerly known as the Discretionary Funds Program) helps to relieve the
financial burden families face during a child's cancer treatment,
and allows families to stay intact and focus on helping their child
recover. Some of the ways these funds have assisted families are
through paying non medical bills such as mortgage/rent payments, electric bills,
car insurance, car repairs, and other
non-medical, everyday expenses.
Funds are distributed through the Children's
Chance office and are paid directly to the vendor. Children's Chance
works closely with the social workers at pediatric oncology clinics
throughout the state including Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia,
The Medical University of Charleston, and The Children's Hospital of
Greenville, as well as with families directly to ensure that the
Discretionary Funds Program helps as many families in South Carolina
who have a child with cancer as possible.
In order to be eligible for the
Discretionary Program your family needs to meet the following
criteria:
Resident of South Carolina
Child
with cancer must be between the ages of 0-18
Child
with cancer must be either currently in treatment or less than one
year off treatment If your family is
